Pro-Slavery Arguments
Slave Owners Defend Slavery
After Nat Turner's Rebellion, slave owners started to defend that slavery was good. Some proslavery advocated that blacks were better off as slaves because they were part of a Christian civilization. They also argued that they cared for their slaves for their whole lifetime whereas Northern factory workers would fire the sick or older free black employees. This argument started the debate that would eventually divide the nation.
