The Temperance Movement
Working Toward Temperance
One of the results of the women's rights movement and the influence of churches was the effort to prohibit drinking of alcohol. This movement is called the Temperance Movement. Although many people were aware of the dangers of consuming alcohol, since liquor was used as by doctors as an anesthetic and by other to help eat salty meat and fish, abolishing alcohol was difficult to accomplish.
