The temperance movement was the effort to prohibit the drinking of alcohol which was related to the Second Great Awakening and the revival of the church. Alcohol flowed freely throughout America and everyone was drinking it mostly because it was cheap. Rallies and brochures brought about a decline in the consumption of alcohol.
