Charlotte and her family lived during the time when Queen Victoria was queen of Britain from 1837-1901. It is considered a time of change where the British Empire reached its height; industry and trade expanded rapidly, science and technology made great advances, middle class grew enormously with an overall population growth of 50%, and a change from an Agricultural nation to a mainly Industrial nation.
