One warlord, General Aidid emerged as a particularly dangerous individual. Many attempts were were made to capture him, but all failed. People were gathered in the streets attempting to capture the general. At one point 20 people were shot down by Pakistani soldiers trying to control the masses. Finally, a planned mission by the US was established. The plan was to quickly lower US soldiers into the heart of Somalia from high tech helicopters. They would then travel to the hideout of General Aidid, and capture him. This would help the food get to the people who needed it most. Unfortunately what happened was not what they expected and ended with 18 Americans dead, 73 wounded and 1 captured.
