FlowVella Pricing, Free and Premium Accounts Updated
FlowVella Pricing Strategy and Changes to Free Accounts
We aim to build the best presentation publishing platform and be as transparent as possible as we build our business. We want to let you in on our pricing strategy, and we not only welcome your feedback, we encourage it!
With the launch of FlowVella for Mac, we are releasing our first ‘paid’ app(lication). We have seen hundreds of thousands of downloads of FlowVella for iPad but a small percentage who have converted to paid users. We appreciate and thank all the premium users but we have decided to try the paid approach with the Mac app.
In FlowVella for Mac, features like export to PDF/printing, embedding PDFs, full color wheel, shapes, and other features are bundled with the introductory price of $9.99. We will continue to add and improve features, and all features that are part of the Mac app will be free via updates FOREVER. Though some of these features have been considered ‘premium’ in the iPad app, Mac users won’t be considered ‘premium’.
Free Accounts Increase Monthly Storage to 500MB
Because Mac users are paying, and because we love our free iPad users, we are increasing the monthly quota from 200MB to 500MB. We are thinking of having users pick their cloud storage provider in the future and potentially removing the quota concept completely. We’d love your thoughts on that.
FlowVella Premium – What’s Included
FlowVella Premium is not going away though we are considering making changes to what is ‘premium’ in the iPad app in the future. Premium is moving to more server related web/data/info services.
FlowVella Premium includes:
– 1GB monthly upload quota instead of 500MB
– 200MB max file upload instead of 100MB
– ability to password protect Flows
– full access to stats and analytics, not just the dashboard
– vanity URLs (coming soon!)
– 24 hour support
Conclusion
We haven’t fully figured out ‘the’ definitive pricing model across all our products, but we will continue to test and look to our users for feedback and potentially, guidance. We are open to new ideas, but we are a ten person company and need to grow sustainably in order to continue on our mission to make FlowVella the best presentation software in the world.

Don’t mind paying for the up. Have just purchased the Mac app. But I do want to be able to choose my storage provider (including local disk) as I want the Flowboards to reside with the rest of my project documentation – not be scattered in yet another cloud.
Thanks Laurie. We are actually considering something like that, but there are some drawbacks, so we are continuing to evaluate before we make a final decision.
Just bought Flowboard for Mac and downloaded for iPad, and looking forward to using it. I love the simplicity, the ease of sharing and the interactivity. Curious to find out if I can allow comments under all my flipboardpages, just like you ‘ve done here 🙂
My wishes for future versions:
* Being able to use my own URL, so I can use flowboards instead of websites/blog-pages (so much easier to set up and maintain)
* Make/save my own templates (for keeping a consistent look-and-feel for my blogs/sites)
* I’d much rather pay a one-time fee up front, than per month. Now I am hesitant to commit to premium service, because I tend to forget and then pay for services I no longer use 🙁
Hans,
Thanks for your comment on our blog post! I wanted to address some of your questions.
First, yes people can add comments to your publicly posted Flowboards, or simply “like” them instead.
As far as using your own URL, you may want to look into using our embed code. Every time you post a Flowboard, you’ll see the embed code block, which can be used to display your Flowboard as a “widget” on your own site.
While we don’t have a way to specifically save templates, I’d suggest the following:
– Create a Flowboard, design it to be your template
– Save it or post as Private, title it “My Favorite Template” or similar
– When ready to create a new Flowboard with that style, simply right-click on your template (or tap and hold if on iPad), select Duplicate
– Edit the new copy and save/post/embed as a whole new Flowboard
