Localizing FlowVella, Just the Beginning

We just released the 1.3 version of FlowVella and one of the new features is that we have localized (or translated) FlowVella into 7 languages; Français, Italiano, Deutsch, Español, Português, 日本人 (Japanese) and 简化中国 (Simplified Chinese).

Why did we localize?

FlowVella already has users all over the world and their native languages collectively far outweigh English. We know that many people are taught English in school as a second language and it is the most popular ‘second’ language, but want to delight our users and make them feel comfortable. We decided to localize because it makes business sense and because we feel that is the right and respectful thing to do. We honor diversity and globalization and FlowVella is a worldwide brand.

This is just the beginning of our localization process. We identified (almost) every word or sentence in the application and had them translated. We converted graphics into buttons with words and sentences and translated. We translated our app description in the App Store, and will be submitting translated screen grabs shortly.

We definitely missed some words and screens. We haven’t translated the ‘interactive’ guide, the FAQ or the FlowVella Guide. We haven’t translated the templates yet. Our web site isn’t localized yet either. There are probably going to be some words or sentences that are incorrect, and we are looking for help and feedback from our users. As our user base grows, we plan on localizing other features. For example, we may have catalogs or templates for specific languages that aren’t available for other languages. We will localize the FAQ and our guides, but it will take some time.
