In 1953, James Watson built the first accurate model of DNA. He and Francis Crick were determined to solve its structure, and they did it all in secret. He discovered that it was shaped like a double helix and that the two strands "unzipped" in order to make replicates. They knew this structure was accurate because Rosalind Franklins's photos helped confirm it. This discovery changed the world of genetics forever and helped scientists understand recombinant of DNA.
