ATTACK IN THE DEAD OF NIGHT

Galveston tribute

January 1, 1863

Pictured above is General John B. Magruder, the hero of the Battle of Galveston, after driving off the Union.

Early this morning, General Magruder and his Confederate troops, surprise attacked the Union fleet that has been keeping most Galvestionians out of work. This has caused a major drop in our economy and that ends today. At 1:00 AM this morning, Magruder fired cannons into the Union ships which caused them to sink and retreat. We can rest easy tonight knowing that we can start shipping our cotton tomorrow!
