Reason for leaving (why they came to America)

-The Irish Americans left their country because of famine
-they were all living on potatoes
-It was hard to grow the potatoes during summer because they would rot
-This led to diseases, killed many people
-1.25 million people fled to America
-One eighth of the population died of starvation
