Who's At Risk/ Risk Factors

* People who live in areas where winter days are very short or there are big changes in the amount of day light in different seasons.

* People between the ages of 15-55, the risk of getting SAD for first time decreases as you age

* People who have a close relative with SAD

* Being female: SAD is diagnosed more often in women than in men, but men may have symptoms that are more severe

* Living far from the equator: SAD appears to be more common among people who live far north or south of the equator. During the winter months sunlight decreases significantly

*Having clinical depression or bipolar disorder: symptoms of depression may worsen seasonally if you have one of these conditions
