Buddhism is one of the worlds major religions. Originated in Northern India, Buddhism traces back to Siddhartha Gautama (Buddha). Buddha saw suffering in the world and wanted to fix it. Through meditation and analysis, he reached an enlightened state. Buddhism teaches that life is permeated with suffering caused by desire, that suffering ceases when desire ceases, and that enlightenment obtained through right conduct, wisdom, and meditation releases one from desire, suffering, and rebirth. Buddhism is neither monotheistic nor polytheistic, because Buddha did not consider himself a God.
The Buddhist Canon consists of different texts that cover philosophical, devotional, and monastic matters.
Some major Buddhist holidays are the Buddhist New Year and Vesak. The Buddhist New Year is pretty self explanatory. It's the New Year. Vesak celebrates the birth of Buddha.
