The Temperate Deciduous Forest
2 animal adaptations necessary are:
Birds fly somewhere warm to stay and find food. Some mammals like bears hibernate in the winter. Other animals grow winter coats or shed their winter coat.
2 unique animal species are:
1. The Least Weasel- It has a long body and shard nails to help him hunt during the day and during the night. The Least Weasel is the smallest carnivore in the world.
2. Duckbill Platypus- Its almost the size of a house cat. It has a thick cover of hair except for its bill and feet. Its back is a dark brown and has light yellow on its stomach.
2 plant species are:
1. Shagbark Hickory tree- has an ashy gray bark similar to birch trees except its bark separates into long strips, which give the trunk its shaggy look.
2. Carpet moss- simple rootless evergreen plant. They can live in a wide variety oh habbitats, but are most often found covering the ground.g
2 plant adaptations needed are:
In summer their broad green leafs help draw sunlight for photosynthesis. In winter the trees just lose their leaves and seal off where that leaf was.
Human Impacts:
Humans often colinize areas in the temperate deciduous forest. They harvest wood for timber and charcoal. During the settlement of north america, potash made from tree ashes was exported to Europe as fertilizer, as a result, less than one quarter of original forest remain.
