Eragon is the main character who the story is about, once Saphira hatches for him he is known as the dragon rider who is supposed to free the people from the evil Galbatroix

Saphira is the dragon who hatched from the blue egg for Eragon, she is to be his companion for as long as they both live. If a rider dies however a dragon cannot handle the grief and will end up dying too.

Brom is a man from Eragons village who helps him evade capture and make it to the Varden. It is later revealed that he is also Eragons father and a previous dragon rider who was there for the fall of the riders.
