Hantaro Nagaoka

Haunter Nagaoka was born August 19. 1865 to December 11th, 1950. He was born in Nagasaki, Japan. Nagaoka was a Japanese physicist. He was educated in Tokyo but in his early years he moved to Europe and continued his education there in Berlin, Munich and Vienna. In those universities he took courses which involved Saturn’s rings and a course with Ludwig Boltzmann on his Kinetic Theory of Gases, these two would be two influences on his later work. In 1900 he attended a lecture and heard Marie Curie talk about radioactivity which expanded his interest in atomic physics. J.J. Thomson had considered new structures for the atom Suggesting that:

1. A neutral atom must also contain an opposite positive charge.

2. The atom was a sphere of uniform positive electrification, with electrons scattered through it like plums in a pudding

Nagaoka rejected his theories and made his own model. Predicting that,

1. A very massive atomic center.

2. Electrons revolving around the nucleus, bound by electrostatic forces
