The Green Wall of Africa
12 countries have come together to take part in the project.
The Green Wall of Africa is a project to plant a wall of trees across Africa at the southern edge of the Sahara desert as a means to prevent desertification. The project launched in 2007.
The United Nations predict that if the way things are going stays the same, about ⅔ of Africa land will be covered in Saharan sand.
Leaders point out that the Great Green Wall is about more than just protection from windblown sand. The project will bring thousands of jobs to impoverished communities.
