•first stanza- speaker is in a boat on the ocean observing the way the waves move "in fiery ringlets from their sleep."

•As the speaker's boat reaches land, they describe the boat gradually getting closer to the cove until it touches the "slushy sand".

• Browning describes the waves being "startled from their sleep."
