The tundra is the coldest biome of all 9. Tundra comes from the finnish word tunturia. It means treeless plain. It is known for its frost molded landscape and extremely low temperatures. There is very little precipitation. There is very poor nutrients and very short growing seasons. The major nutrience is nitrogen and phosphorus.

The arctic fox

(Arctic Tundra/Alpine Tundra)

2 animal adaptations needed in the tundra is fur. If the animal has thick fur then it is most likely able to withstand the freezing temperatures. In the tundra animals have to adapt to freezing water and getting food.

There are low shrubs, sedges, reindeer mosses, liverworts, and grasses.

There are 400 different varieties of flowers. crustose and foliose lichen.

Plants have to adapt to freezing temperatures and low amount of nutrients.

Humans have had a great impact on the Tundra. They have left garbage and gas waste in the arctic to pollute it and the usage of the gasses and fossils fuels witch are causing global warming are melting the ice caps.
