The Fiddler Man is one of the most entertaining pieces I've ever learned and it never fails to bring a smile to my face. It's not often that we get to sing as a banjo in choir, so it definitely took some getting used to, but it helped me to lighten up a bit and be more expressive when I sing. It raises the energy in the room by at least 25% whenever we practice it.

When we are singing There is a Balm in Gilead, I try and close my eyes to truly imagine how this song makes me feel. When we are all unison and singing forte, I picture a gentle stream waterfall and it is beautiful. I believe this song is fitting for this concert as the theme is “America, you need a hug”. This song is about healing, which seems to be what this country needs after many recent events (political and social) that have put a divide between its citizens.
