Math

In early February, over 450 students participated in the American Mathematics Competition, the annual math exam offered on behalf of the United States to find potential candidates for the official United States Math Team. 29 participants made it to the second round, the American Invitation Mathematics Exam. This second-round exam was taken in March; we await the results for these students.

The Math Department held our annual Pi Day celebration by hosting the entire staff for lunch on 3/14. What did we serve? Why, pizza and dessert pie, of course! how did you celebrate this day?

Our math teachers also busy getting ready for next year. In 2017-2018, Paly will pilot a non-AP Calculus course designed for seniors to take an additional year of math in preparation for potentially taking Calculus in college. Also, we are holding several meetings to review and better align our practices throughout the lanes and throughout the sequence of math courses.
