Tactics & Strategies

The Sneaky Attack

Burgoyne's Campaign

Americans used sharpshooters to fight. A sharpshooter was a person who was very skilled in shooting. This was considered "cheating" to the British because the British were used to fighting on the field, launching cannon balls back and forth. Using sharpshooters was a more of a sneaky attack.

The British General Burgoyne had a plan to lead his army south from Lake Champlain to Albany, New York. He planned for General Howe to go north. Since Howe wasn't aware of the plan, instead of going north he went to Philadelphia.

The Tents

The Americans leave their campsite to plan an attack. But, they knew the British would be on their trail. To protect themselves, they left empty tents to show that they were still there. They knew the British would be planning an attack there.
