Mahabharata
In the Mahabharata, five royal brothers, the Pandavas, get their kingdom stolen by their cousins. The Pandavas battled for 18 days, eventually defeating their cousins and taking back their kingdom to restore peace to India. This battle was known as the Battle of Kurukshetra.
At at almost 100,000 verses, the Mahabharata is the greatest epic of India. It relates the battles Aryans fought to take over the Ganges region, and reveals information of Aryan warfare and religion.

Ramayana
The Ramayana tells the story of a heroic prince named Rama and his quest to save his beautiful wife Sita from the king of the demons: Ravana.
Over time, this epic evolved; priest-poets added moral messages in it to teach lessons. Rama became the epitome of virtue and example of a perfect king. Sita was admired as his loyal and obedient wife.
