Georges Braque is another artist who influenced and inspired the cubist movement. He and Pablo Picasso were known as the “Gallery Cubists.” This painting was made in 1910, and is titled Violin and Candlestick. It is an oil on canvas painting that represents cubism. Cubism is known for depicting the world as something different than it seems. Therefore, in this painting, the violin and candlestick are visible, but do not look like they normally would. The artwork includes geometric shapes and lines to show the scene in a new way.

Violin and Candlestick, 1910
