Hinduism is one the most prominent religions in the world and still is the main religion in India and South Asia. The Aryans started the religion of Hinduism and carried it into now modern-day India. Many other religions have stemmed off of Hinduism, such as Jainism, Buddhism, and much more. There is no founder or set date to when it was created. Hindus are polytheistic, have many different philosophies, and often meditate in prayer. Hinduism is a little bit different than regular religions because it does not have a set of rules that you must follow. The religion is more about peace and finding you place in the world.

The Hindus believe in many gods but there are an original three deities that came form back in the Indo-Aryan times. The "big three" are Brahma(the creator), Vishnu(the preserver), and Shiva( the destroyer or wrath-giver). They all represent and are just branches of the Brahman, the universal spirit. Brahman is a hard concept to explain, but it is infinite, never ending reality and paradise. When you finally break the cycle of reincarnation, you are united with Brahman once and for all.

Jainism is a break off of Hinduism. It extremely stresses the issue of non-violence. It doesn't have one single founder but a teacher, Mahavira(a tirtgakara= great teachers) helped bring the issues of independence and self-rebirth. The main goal in Jainism, just like is Hinduism, is to get good karma and escape the cycle of rebirth. This is called becoming a Jani. Jains don't even farm because insects are hurt in the process of plowing.

The Hindu equivalent of the Bible is the text the Vedas. It hold most of their prayers, hymns, chants, songs, and teachings. It is written in. Sanskrit and it is one of the Soldest languages in the world. Other holy texts included the Upanishads, Puranas, The Epics, and even other branches of the Vedas. Jainism is a traditional Indian religion that branches off of Hinduism. However, it differs great from the Hindu, because it does not have a Vedas, caste system, or social order. It developed over 2,000 years ago in 500 BC. One of the authors of the religion, Mahavira was very influential in the Jainism religion. One of the biggest aspects of the religion is meditation, fasting, and not hurting a single living creature. Jains do not even farm, as bugs are hurt in the process of plowing.
