Serfs/Peasants

Serfs, also known as villeins, were the lowest group of peasants in medieval society. They received their land from knights. In return,they had to provide the knights with free labor, service, and food whenever it was demanded of them. The serfs were bound to the land and were unable to leave or even marry without their lord's permission.
