Early Life

Edith was born on the 2nd of August in 1861 in Western Australia, she was the second child from her father, Kevin Brown and his first wife Mary Elizabeth Dirckse Wittenoon, who died in child birth in 1868. Edith's father remarried and after a few years he murdered her and was hung. At the age of 17 she married a man names James Cowan on the 12th of November 1879.
