Portrait of Sadness
Helena Wierzbicki 2013
Describe
-high value of dark line
-lots of edge line
-organic and compound shape
-bright colors and dark colors
-stiff movement, figure seems very still and statue like
Analyze
-the woman's hidden face expresses her sadness
-the gloomy colors darken the painting and the bright reds and oranges are a contrast that adds color in a complementary way
-her hair and arm has a downward movement
-cooler colors are emphasized
Interpret
I think that the use of the color blue especially goes with the emotion sadness. This comes from the saying "I'm feeling blue". Also the downward angle of her head gives off the impression that she is hiding her face and this also goes well with the emotion.
