Shame

Shame

Describe
-figure hunched over with head covered
-red and black color
-high and low value
-organic and invented shape
-edge lines
-Positive and negative areas

Analyze
-the figure is covering her face, concealing most of it
-the red color is dulled
-the pupil and iris of the eye seem to be directed at the viewer of the painting
-there are no actual lines. The figure is made using positive and negative shape
-the black hair that sweeps across the entire painting creates movement

Interpret
I think that the position of the figure does not alone convey shame in this painting although it is a contributing factor. It is the combination of the position and the colors of the painting that express the emotion. Without the red color, the figure could be interpreted as sad or depressed, but with it shame is shown.
