Many advances were made during the Gupta empire, including some in the fields of Medicine, architecture and literature. They had a strong central government, but gave some power to village leaders. At first, women had quite a few rights, like being able to serve on a council. That just faded away over time, because it was soon required that women of higher class had everything from head to toe covered.
