Linking to Other Apps in FlowVella – Secret Hack

A couple years ago, a customer asked us if it was possible to link and open an app from a FlowVella presentation. We thought about it, and said, ‘Yes‘, it is possible to launch another app from FlowVella.

I don’t want to get into too technical an explanation, but each app on your smartphone or computer has a ‘URL scheme’. For example, ‘http’ is a ‘URL scheme’ to open a web site. If you were to type, ‘twitter://’ in Safari on your iPhone or iPad, you would get a reply (if you had Twitter installed), ‘Open this page in “Twitter”? and the choice to Cancel or Open. If you hit ‘Open’, you will leave Safari and go into Twitter.

Some apps publish various commands you can send, like ‘twitter://post?message=Go%20to%20flowvella.com’ – that will open Twitter in the draft with ‘Go to flowvella.com’ already filled in.

To open an app, you will need to find out what it’s ‘URL scheme’ is, most likely it’s the name of the app, in lowercase. Hint, hint.. try flowvella://

To create a link to another app, you create a web link like this: https://flowvella.com/scheme/NAME_OF_APP like https://flowvella.com/scheme/spotify.

If you don’t know the URL scheme of the app you’re trying to link to, you may have to try a few until you get it right.

Please note that you will NOT be able to do this offline, you will need to have an active Internet connection for this feature to work.

Please let us know if you need any help with this.
