The New York State Canal System
NYS Canal System was formerly known as the NYS Barge Canal built in 1918.
The 525 miles are comprised of the Erie Canal, Oswego Canal, Cayuga-Seneca Canal, and Champlain Canal.
The NYS Canal System is used mainly by private pleasure boats, and serves as a fresh supply of water.
