Traffic signal

Even though cars had been around for decades, there was no such thing as a traffic light until 1923. Pedestrians, horse and carriages, and cars often traveled on the same road. More and more frequently, this resulted in collisions. In 1923, Garrett Morgan invented the first traffic signal used throughout the US. Morgan’s signal saved many travelers from unfortunate crashes.
