The Brook
The walls of Jericho can represent the brook because it separates two very different worlds that Pearl lives. Everything inside the city is safe and secure and everyone does what they are told. Pearl cannot get away from being labeled as a physical product of sin because she is reminded of it everyday, never once taken off her scarlett letter as opposed to Hester and Dimmesdale. As she and Hester walk in the forest, she mentions the river sounds sad, but never once crosses it.
