flow of blood
1. deoxygenated blood enters right side of the heart via the inferior and superior vena cava and goes through the right atrium and right ventricle
2.deoxygenated blood pumped through the pulmonary artery to the lungs, where it exchanges carbon dioxide for oxygen
3. oxygenated blood from the lungs enters through the pulmonary vein to the left atrium and left ventricle
4. oxygenated blood exits the heart through the aorta(BIG artery) and flows through the body
5. Oxygenated blood goes to the organs and muscles and drops off oxygen into capillaries
* as blood passes through each chamber, valves prevent blood from flowing backward DEF of VALVE
