The Chinese were treated very unfairly during the gold rushes by both the government and fellow citizens. HOW? By passing laws that were unfair to Asian people by making fun of them and treating them differently to other people. WHY? Because they looked different, wore different clothes, smoked opium and practiced their own traditions.
