A schizocyte is a broken blood cell. Also known as a helmet cell. They usually have an irregular shape and 2 pointed corners. They are made by microangiopathic diseases that form strands of fibrin that sever blood cells as they move past them. They are commonly seen with hemolytic anemia and artificial heart valves.
