Mexican revolution

- Napoleon invaded the Iberian peninsula and weaked central authority
- This made it more difficult for Spain to govern Mexico.
- During this period, many peasant rebellions occurred, none bigger than that of Miguel Hidalgo.
- The lower classes felt inspired by both the French and American revolutions and believed they had the power to do the same.
- Hidalgo restructured the gov., redistributed the wealth, gave equality for all, and gave the land back to the natives.
- After his execution by the Creoles, more rebellions continued to spur, until they got independence in 1821.
- Led by Augustin Iturbide
