Governors
The governors of Louisiana during the 1900s made a lot of changes in the economy.
William W. Heard, J.Y. Sanders, and John Parker were all governor during this time period.
Heard was the first governor of the twentieth century. Heard ended the convict lease system. He was very famous for ending it.
J.Y. Sanders began a program to improve the roads before WWI. These roads soon helped transportation in many ways.
Parker couldn't get all of progressive changes he wanted. But he was able to move the state in the right direction.He had to face the KKK. They were a terrorist group who caused a lot of trouble.He also est. the severance tax on resources taken from the land.The money helped with other improvements.
