-Reddit was founded in June of 2005, by Steve Huffman and Alex Ohanian, both 22-year-old graduates of the University of Virginia.
-Between November 2005, and January 2006 reddit merged with the company infogami.
-On June 18, 2008 reddit became an open source project, meaning the websites source code is open to the public. Open source programs can be modified and distributed by anyone and are often developed as a community.
-In July of 2010, reddit introduced reddit Gold, offering new features for a price of $3.99/month or $29.99/year. Reddit Gold allows many features such as the ability to display more comments on the screen at once, access to the private subreddit /r/lounge, and notifications when ones username is mentioned in a comment.
-On January 18, 2012, reddit participated in a 12-hour site wide blackout in protest of the SOPA act.
-In late 2012, the President of the US, Barrack Obama did an AMA (ask me anything) on reddit and brought so much traffic the site could not handle the amount of users online and crashed for a few minutes before ready to come back.
