The theme of the conjuring was religion because the Perron family starts out by not embracing any type of religion and the warrens urge them to baptize their kids in a Catholic Church to protect them from all the forces. Their lack of faith made them easy targets for the demons. Gods power was on display throughout the film as the warrens, the demonologists, used tactics found in the bible to cast away the forces.
