Freedom of Expression in Everyday Life Today

Freedom of expression is a freedom that is very important to many people. People like to express themselves in a way they want, not in a way they are told to. In our country today, we are allowed to do that, thanks to the first amendment to the constitution, guaranteeing the right to freedom of expression. We had an issue with a deprivation of this right at Hoover High School last school year. A homosexual girl wore a shirt to school that said, "Gay? Fine By Me" across the front. This shirt caused a big issue at Hoover High School. She was told that she had to take off the shirt and put another one on because it could offend other students and could cause controversy. The girl felt that this was not fair and it went against her right to freely express herself as a homosexual female. She protested this ruling of not being allowed to wear the shirt and ended up being granted the right to wear it. This is just one example of the many ways people like to express themselves in America. We express ourselves daily through clothing, social media, having attitude and being dramatic while executing something we do not want to do just to prove a point, and more.
