The suitors at the house with Penelope hear about Telemachus' journey and plan to ambush him. Penelope hears from Medon about this and becomes distraught because she is afraid she will lose her son too. It was bad enough that she had lost Odysseus. Then Athena sends a phantom of Iphthime, Penelope's sister, who reassures her that the goddess will protect Telemachus.
