First the rice fields are prepared with extremely precise equipment. Next the fields need to be flooded at a depth of 5 inches and seeded are planted from above from a plane flying about 100 miles per hour. Third the rice matures over a five month time period, the rice grows very fast reaching a height of 3 feet. An average of 8,000 pounds of rice is yielded from an area of about an acre. Finally the rice is harvested and checked for quality before being store in large grain silos. A warm climate is needed to grow rice so it is nearly impossible to grow rice in Northern America.
