The second contenental congress met on July 1st 1776
In phillidelphia state house. On July 2nd 1776 12 colonies voted for independence.

Debate over slavery

In Jeffersons declaration, he had charged that king George with violating the "sacred rights of life and liberty of the distant people carrying them in to slavery"

Independence Day

The delegates approved the deceleration of independence on July 4th. Franklins quote about staying united post declaring independence. "We must all hang together. Or most assuringly we shall all hang separately."
