Evidence of Catholic Success after the Civil Rights Movement

This is a diary entry of an Italian American for December 7, 1941.
I am Italian Born.

Thank you, Uncle Sam,
for giving me a home
and letting me become an
American.

I am proud to be one of you
And I Shall help in every
possible way to keep America
on top of the World.

American [Citizen?] A. Cesare

This shows that Catholics were beginning to integrate with the Protestants through fighting the world wars. They were finally beginning to feel that they belonged in America.

The election of John F. Kennedy in 1960 was a huge milestone for Catholics. Kennedy was the grandson of an Irish Catholic immigrant. He was the first Catholic president, the last time a catholic had even ran for president was 1928.

This is a Historian of American Religion named Grant Wackef. He clams that the change in Catholic-Protestant relations was the "single biggest social transformation in 20th century America.
