The government offered a big prize, if someone crossed the south to the north of Australia. The government wanted to do this to find more land.
Before just going Burke and Wills needed to plan.

Also a camping oven.

50 little rockets to signal each other if they got lost in the desert.
After looking at the things they both decided that they need people to carry the things for them. They asked everyone but nobody wanted to do it. They payed over $15,500 for people to carry the food. 200 people came and there was only 19 places. When Burke and Wills chose the 19 people they went of.
