Khat Culture

Although khat is illegal in the US and many other countries, this is not the case for many African countries. It is widely used in African celebrations, meetings, marriages, and other gatherings. It is even issued to members of the Somali military to lessen their need for food and sleep, and increase their aggression. However, when khat users supplies are stopped, they do experience many of the withdrawal effects mentioned earlier. Also, there was a study done that showed khat users with heart disease had a higher risk of heart attack or stroke.
