Science: Steam and Coal

Steam trains, canals, and better roads were created because of steam and coal. The newly invented machines, powered by burning wood or coal. James Watt created a more reliable and efficient version of a steam powered engine in 1765, making it possible to replace water power with steam power in factories and mills. In the process of transferring ancient stored energy (and remembering that energy can take the form of light, heat, or motion) from its ancient container (coal), some energy escapes as heat into the atmosphere, where there is no natural way of reconverting the heat to another form of energy
