1- initiation-
establishes where translation will begin; all pieces come together & begin translating mRNA; first tRNA occupies the P site which will hold the peptide chain; the A site is available to receive the next tRNA
2- elongation-
Adds amino acids to polypeptide chain until it reaches the "stop" codon
*3steps-
1) codon recognition- anticodon matches codon at A site
2) peptide bond formation- new amino acid is joined to chain
3) translocation- tRNA is released from the P site and ribosome moves tRNA from A site to P site
Translation process:
3- termination-
ribosome reaches stop codon & completed polypeptide is freed from the last tRNA & parts disassemble
