Died
He Died on the 19 July 1814 (aged 40)
London, England
Australia's High Commissioner to the UK, Mike Rann, said a statue of Flinders would be built at Euston Station, where he's believed to be buried.
Matthew Flinders died because on his voyage back to England his ship was wrecked, so he needed to go to France to get it repaired. Matthew Flinders hoped his French passport would work. But the French Ambassador's earlier encounter with him didn't go so well when he ordered the ambassador to leave France. So the Ambassodor was suspicious. The Ambassador asked Matthew and his family to dine with him but Matthew Flinders said no. So then the Ambassador threw him into jail accusing him of being a spy. A couple years later when he came out his health conditions were very low. You didn't get treated very well back then in jail. They repaired his ship and sent him back to England. About 8 months after arriving into
England, Matthew Flinders died. He died a day after his book was published. A Voyage To Terra Australis.
